Honor Society standards at TU's commencement ceremony

Academic Honor Societies

Alpha Chi, a national honorary, is open to students with junior and senior standing. Students must be in the top 10% of their class, have a minimum GPA of 3.5, participate in student activities, show evidence of community participation, and be of good character and reputation. Members wear blue and green twined honor cords.

 

Alpha Phi Sigma is a national honor society for Criminal Justice undergraduate students with a grade point average (GPA) of 3.2 on a 4.0 scale, must have completed one-third of the total hours required for graduation, must rank in the top 35 percent of their class and have completed a minimum of four courses in the Criminal Justice curriculum. The TU chapter of Alpha Phi Sigma is Beta Epsilon.

 

Alpha Sigma Lambda is an honor society for non-traditional students, age 26 or older, who have earned a minimum 3.2 GPA taking a minimum of 24 graded undergraduate semester hours at TU. The TU chapter of Alpha Sigma Lambda is Phi Lambda.

 

Chi Sigma Iota, an international Counseling, academic and professional honor society, is dedicated to promoting excellence in counseling. Students must have a minimum 3.5 GPA and have completed at least 12 hours in a graduate counseling program. Members wear a white and navy ribbon with medallion.

 

Kappa Delta Pi, an international honor society in Education, is open to second semester sophomores, juniors, and seniors who rank in the top 20% of their class or have a 3.5 or higher GPA. Members wear purple and green twined honor cords.

 

Phi Alpha is a national honor society for Social Work students. Thomas University is part of the Phi Alpha National Social Work Honor Society as the Omicron Tau chapter. Social Work seniors with at least a 3.0 overall college grade point average and a 3.25 grade point average in Social Work classes are eligible for membership in our chapter. Members wear multi-colored twined honor cords representing the diversity of clients served by social workers.

 

SALUTE is the national honor society for military and veteran students who have earned a minimum grade point average of 3.0 (GPA of 3.5 for graduate students), who have served or who are currently serving in the military, National Guard, or reserves, and who maintain the highest ethical standards. Inducted graduate students are classified as SALUTE Gold Members and must have completed 12 semester hours of graduate work or the equivalent. Members wear red, white and blue twined honor cords.

 

Sigma Beta Delta is a national honor society in Business. Its purpose is to encourage and recognize scholarship and accomplishment among students of Business, Management, and Administration, and to encourage and promote aspirations toward personal and professional improvement and a life distinguished by honorable service to humankind. It is open to students in the business administration program who rank in the upper 20 percent of their class. Members wear green and gold twined honor cords.

 

Sigma Theta Tau is an international honor society of Nursing that supports the learning, knowledge, and professional development of nurses committed to making a difference in health worldwide. Membership is open to BSN and MSN students with a minimum GPA of 3.5, as well as nursing leaders with a minimum of a bachelor’s degree and demonstrated achievement in the profession. Members wear purple and white twined honor cords. The TU chapter of Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society in Nursing is Phi Tau.
