TU graduate heads to Auburn’s College of Veterinary Medicine

Emily Bowne from Dunnellon, Florida, completed her bachelor’s degree from Thomas University in May 2020. Next she’ll head to Auburn University’s College of Veterinary Medicine.
“I have wanted to be a veterinarian since I was in high school,” Bowne said. “I have always been interested in scientific fields. A job where I can diagnose and heal animals is truly exciting to me.”
At TU, Bowne earned a bachelor’s degree in biology with a minor in chemistry while playing on the Night Hawks Softball Team.
“Being part of the softball team at TU helped me refine my time management, leadership and interpersonal skills,” she said.
While still an undergraduate, Bowne gained experience in her chosen field.
“With the Biology Department’s Internship 1 class, I was able to obtain 120 hours of veterinary experience at Thomasville Animal Hospital,” she said.
Bowne’s professors helped her stay focused on her goal of becoming a veterinarian.
“Emily knew from day one at TU that she wanted to be a veterinarian,” said Deana Baker, Chair of the Division of Science. “She was focused and worked very hard to achieve this goal, and it paid off. Her love and dedication to all living things was apparent in her success in Biology at TU. “
Bowne credits TU’s small class sizes and dedicated faculty with helping her excel in her studies.
“I am so grateful for my time at TU and the opportunities that the school has given me,” she said. “I cannot express how excited I am for this new journey at Auburn University.”
Baker said she’s confident Bowne will be a successful veterinarian.
“Emily was a high-performing student and was always eager to learn more about living organisms,” Baker said. “Throughout her time as a TU Biology student, she demonstrated characteristics of compassion. Her intelligence, kindness and compassion for all living things will make her a great veterinarian.”
