Post Published On:

At 4 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 13, Arts for the Community at Thomas University will present a virtual performance celebrating the 90th birthday of award-winning composer and lyricist Stephen Joshua Sondheim, who has shaped musical theatre since the 1950s. The event is part of ACTU’s “Sundays at Four” performance series.

“What a delight to be able to make music again,” said M. Nicole Davis, who will direct the performance. “Our beautiful, talented and intergenerational cast includes singers located in North Florida, South Georgia and Pennsylvania. The audience will have the opportunity to hear selections from over 10 Sondheim shows, covering 30 years of our artist’s work.”

The virtual event will feature 15 performers and 13 songs. The event will be available live at facebook.com/actu31792/live. No Facebook account is required to view.

Performances will include selections from some of Sondheim’s most popular works, including “Gypsy,” “A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum,” “Hot Spot,” “Anyone Can Whistle,” “Company,” “A Little Night Music,” “Sweeney Todd,” “Marry Me a Little,” “Into the Woods” and “West Side Story.”

In addition to Davis, other members of the production team include Rick McDonnell, assistant director; Jim Amend, collaborative pianist; and Karl Barton, producer, video production and flutist.
