Georgia Adopt-a-Stream workshop to be held at TU March 26
Post Published On:Thomas University will host a Georgia Adopt-a-Stream Chemical and Bacterial workshop from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, March 26, on its Forbes Campus.
The chemical monitoring portion of the workshop will teach volunteers about basic stream water chemistry and how to conduct various chemical tests using hand-held field equipment. The bacterial monitoring segment will teach volunteers how to monitor E. coli levels in streams and identify possible sources of pollution. E. coli is a type of bacteria that is often used to indicate the presence of other, harmful strains of bacteria in streams. This workshop will also cover collecting and plating a water sample, incubating the plates, and interpreting the results.
During the workshop, outside water samples will be collected from the Ochlocknee River in Thomasville. Closed-toe shoes and bug repellant are required.
