Attendance and Participation in Classes
Thomas University expects that students will be in attendance and participate in all classes during the entire semester. Attendance and participation help to promote student learning and successful completion of academic goals.
On-Ground/Campus and Hybrid Courses
Students enrolled in on-ground or hybrid courses must attend at least one scheduled class or laboratory session during the first week of classes. Absence from these sessions during the first week will result in being recorded as a no-show for the semester and will result in being removed from the course without the ability to re-enroll.
Online Courses
Logging into an online course alone does not constitute attendance. To meet attendance requirements and remain enrolled, students must actively participate in course activities, which include but are not limited to:
- Participating in discussion boards;
- Completing and submitting assignments, quizzes or exams.
First Week of Class Policy
- Online Courses: Students who fail to meet participation requirements during the first week of class will be recorded as a no-show (see above).
- On-Ground/Campus and Hybrid Courses: Students who miss all scheduled sessions during the first week will be recorded as a no-show (see above).
No-Show Consequences:
- Students recorded as no-shows will be removed from the course at the end of the first week of classes.
- Seats in the course may be reassigned to other students.
- Courses from which students are removed will not appear on their permanent records.
Refund Policy
100% Tuition Refund for classes dropped before the end of the drop/add period of the academic term.
100% Tuition and Fee Refund: For classes canceled by the University.
Important Considerations
- Students removed from a course for no-show will not be permitted back into the course for that semester.
- Being dropped from courses due to no-show status may impact a student’s financial aid eligibility, Athletic eligibility and/or degree completion
Students dropped for no-show are encouraged to contact:
- The Office of Financial Aid for assistance with financial aid adjustments.
- The Faculty Athletic Representative (if applicable) for guidance regarding athletic eligibility.
- The student’s Success Advisor for future registration
This policy is designed to promote accountability, ensure compliance with federal regulations, and support the academic success of all Thomas University students.
