To reduce the length of time and cost to complete a program of study, students may receive up to 30 combined hours of credit for approved courses towards a Bachelor’s degree or 15 hours toward an Associate of Arts degree through any of the following:

• College Level Examination Program (CLEP) subject examinations
• Defense Activity for Non-Traditional Education Support (DSST/DANTES) or
• Advanced Placement (AP) program.

All Coast Guard members are required to visit their voluntary education center and request academic counseling from the ESO or other education support personnel before requesting tuition assistance.  The Coast Guard Tuition Assistance Program allows eligible active duty members to receive up to $2500 annually to assist with the cost of higher education.
