Assistant Athletic Trainer
Function:
The Assistant Athletic Trainer assists the Head Athletic Trainer in all aspects of health care for the intercollegiate student-athletes of the Thomas University Athletic Department. The Assistant Athletic Trainer will also assist in the evaluation, treatment, and rehabilitation of injuries incurred by the intercollegiate student-athletes at Thomas University. Reporting to the Head Athletic Trainer, the Assistant Athletic Trainer will organize and administer the day-to-day operations of the athletic training facilities including but not limited to: maintaining medical records, insurance, and supply inventory.

Duties & Responsibilities:
· Work in cooperation with the Head Athletic Trainer in all aspects of the health care of the student-athletes, such as evaluation, treatment, and rehabilitation of injuries incurred by the intercollegiate student-athletes
· Onsite care and management of injuries and illnesses including: prevention, evaluation, management and rehabilitation
· Assess risk of injury, perform ergonomic evaluation and coaching, self-care implementation and overall wellness promotion
· Electronic documentation of all patient encounters
· Coordinate and implement injury prevention programs and customized preventative strategies and programs to each patient
· Minimize risk of injury through awareness, education and prevention strategies
· Provide accommodation recommendations, related to sport, for student athletes with restrictions or limitations
· Communicate with physicians and coaching staff regarding the injury status of athletes
· Carry out medical care for assigned student-athletes per the sports medicine standard operating procedures
· Attend practices and all assigned home athletic events as assigned by the Head Athletic Trainer
· Responsible for administrative and other duties as assigned by supervisor
· Maintain work schedule in the athletic training room in cooperation with and as assigned by the Head Athletic Trainer.
Education/Qualifications:
· Bachelor’s degree required in athletic training
· Master’s degree preferred
· Desired Qualification: Two years of experience or equivalent combination of education and experience
· Valid driver license with good driving record required; must be insurable.
Certification/Licenses:
· NATA-BOC Certification
· Possess Georgia State Athletic Training Licensure or eligibility for Georgia State Athletic Training Licensure
· CPR, First Aid, and AED certification
Skills, Abilities, and Professional Demeanor:
· Applied Knowledge: Athletic trainers must have knowledge of a large range of medical problems
· Assessment, evaluation skills and working with other healthcare professionals will be required
· Decision-Making Skills: Ability to think critically and make independent decisions regarding the assessment, treatment, rehabilitation and return to play decisions per state licensure guidelines
· Interpersonal Skills: Ability to communicate effectively in high stress/pressure situation when talking to patients, medical professionals, staff and families.
· Attention to Detail: Athletic trainers should be thorough and detailed with injury tracking and documentation
· Ability to organize, prioritize and perform multiple tasks with little or no supervision
· Proficiency in Microsoft applications and computer use
· Basic knowledge of NAIA rules and guidelines
· Work evenings and weekends; travel as needed.

Work Conditions:
The work environment(s) described here are representative of those an employee may encounter while performing the essential functions of this job:
· Work is performed indoors and outside
· Medium strength is required to position patients for examination.
· May assist patients as needed, helping them on and off the exam table
· Ability to work a flexible schedule, including evenings, weekends, and holidays
· Travel as needed with assigned intercollegiate athletic teams (10% – 25%)
Physical Requirements:
· Exerting up to 40 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects
· Position involves both inside sedentary work and work on different playing surfaces (grass fields and hardwood gym floor) and on other fitness environments while coaching and training situations with student-athletes
· Lifting required (i.e. water, ice chests, etc.), some manual labor is expected
· Medium strength is required to position patients for examination.
Terms of Employment:
Full benefits, letter of employment, Full-Time, 12 months
Exempt position, 40 hours/week, hours will vary with season
Salary is commensurate with experience based on the department scale
