International Students

Thomas University enrolls international students in degree programs from across the globe. We enjoy the diversity they bring to the classroom!

Georgia Rotary Student Program Scholarship  

Students are classified as “International” if they meet any of the criteria listed below. Additional materials are needed for each of the criteria. Please review this web site carefully to see what is needed in your specific case.

Classification as an International Applicant:

  • Not a U.S. citizen and are not currently in the United States.
  • Not a U.S. citizen and are currently in the United States on an F-1 (student) visa.
  • You are currently in the United States on some other class of visa. Please submit a copy of the visa from your passport.

Deadlines for International Applicants*

  • Fall Semester — June 15
  • Spring Semester — October 1
  • Summer Semester — March 1

* Note: All admission requirements must be met on or before the posted deadline. All international files require more documentation than traditional files. How much more information depends on your situation. Please review the following categories carefully to see what additional materials are needed. Remember, these materials must be submitted by the stated deadlines.

+International Freshmen

The Admission Committee considers applicants on the basis of their official secondary school record, along with SAT/ACT and TOEFL scores. Applicants for first-year admission (no prior college) should submit the following:

  • A completed Application for Admission.
  • Copy of ACT or SAT scores. A minimum ACT score of 18 or SAT score of 940 is required for admission.
  • Official secondary school transcript including notice of graduation and diploma with accompanying foreign credential review. (See International Transcripts section below.)
  • For non-native speakers of English, English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) minimum score of 69 (Internet-based) or IELTS 6.0 or a Duolingo English Proficiency score of 100.
  • All freshman are required to live in University Housing. Please see the housing application online.

+International Transfer students

Transfer students who have attended an institution outside of the United States must submit the following:

  • A completed Application for Admission.
  • Official transcripts from all institutions attended. Foreign transcripts must include an accompanying foreign credential review. (See International Transcripts section below.) A cumulative GPA of 2.0 is required for admission.
  • For non-native speakers of English who have not previously attended college in the United States, English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) exam minimum score of 69 (Internet-based) or IELTS of 6.0 or a Duolingo English Proficiency score of 100.

Transfer students who have attended another United States institution must submit the following:

  • A completed Application for Admission.
  • For non-native speakers of English, who do not have College transfer credit for Composition I, English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) exam with a minimum score of 69 (Internet-based) or IELTS 6.0 or a Duolingo English Pfociency score of 100.
  • Official transcripts from all institutions attended.  A cumulative grade point average of 2.0 is required.

+International Graduate Students

Candidates for graduate admission to Thomas University must submit the following:

  • A completed Application for Admission.
  • A detailed résumé.
  • A personal statement of career and educational objectives (not to exceed two pages).
  • Three professional or academic references.
  • Official transcripts from all institutions attended. Any transcript from an institution outside of the United States must be translated into English; translation must be certified for accuracy and accompanied by a professional evaluation. (See International Transcripts section below.)
  • For non-native speakers of English with a conferred bachelor’s degree outside the US, English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) minimum score of 69 (Internet-based) or IELTS of 6.0 or a Duolingo English Proficiency score of 100.

+International Transcripts

All foreign transcripts must be accompanied by a professional evaluation (foreign credential review). It is the student’s responsibility to procure this evaluation and to assume financial responsibility for it.The foreign credit evaluation should include an explanation that the institution is recognized by the ministry of education in the home country and is generally considered to offer at least the equivalent of U.S. higher education credit. In addition, it should include an explanation of the credits, the grading system, and course levels. A course-by-course evaluation for all post-secondary work is required. The report is not binding to Thomas University and will be considered a recommendation for independent decision of the credit to be given. Please note: It may take 2-6 weeks to obtain a credit evaluation. CGFNS is the only credential evaluation service provider recognized by all state Boards of Nursing. Thomas University only accepts foreign transcript evaluations for Nursing from CGFNS.

+Issuing an I-20

Please note that a student must be officially accepted to Thomas University before we issue an I-20. In order to process a student’s I-20, we must receive all admission requirements for international students.

Additionally, we will need the following documents prior to issuing your I-20 from Thomas University:

  • Completed Statement of Finance
  • Financial Documents indicating the availability of funds required.
  • Copy of your passport

NOTE: If you are currently a student at another institution in the United States and have a valid I-20 from that institution, you will need a new I-20 issued by Thomas University.

+Health Insurance

All international students are strongly encouraged to maintain health insurance coverage for the duration of their studies. It is the student’s responsibility to procure this coverage and to assume financial responsibility for it.
