Thomas University held its annual Forbes Society Dinner honoring its supporters on Thursday, Feb. 3, at Glen Arven Country Club in Thomasville. At the dinner, TU presented four awards in recognition of the recipients’ service.
Award-winning poet Lauren K. Alleyne will discuss her poetry and the art of writing poetry at 12:30 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 8, as part of the Georgia Poetry Circuit. Michi Meko’s works engage metaphorically and abstractly with the paradoxes and contradictions that have shaped his personal history and the shared history of Black Americans, particularly in the American South.
At 6 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 3, Associate Professor Rich Curtis will interview Meko, an Atlanta-based multidisciplinary artist, as part of the “Art Talks at Six” series. The interview can be watched at www.facebookcom/actu31792/live. No Facebook account is required to view.
Arts for the Community at Thomas University (ACTU) will celebrate jazz music with its annual January Jazz performance at 4 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 23, with a feature performance of the Tallahassee Community College at the Thomasville Center for the Arts at 600 E. Washington St.
Thomas University an independent, not-for-profit, institution of higher education with undergraduate and graduate programs in Thomasville, Georgia seeks applicants for a full-time Coordinator of Internships & Partnerships, beginning June 1, 2022. This position is responsible for coordinating early field and clinical experiences for Division of Education students and works in collaboration with the Division Chair and the Coordinator of B.S. and M.A.T. Initial Teaching Programs to develop mutually beneficial partnerships with PK-12 schools and community agencies.
TYPICAL QUALIFICATIONS:
Minimum of a master’s degree (Ed.S, Ed.D, or Ph.D. preferred).
Demonstrated knowledge and experience with educational supervision and evaluation, teaching/learning processes, and instructional strategies.
More than three years of successful PK-12 school experience.
Ability to maintain confidentiality and exhibit good judgment in making decisions concurrent with University policy
Ability to build relationships and work cooperatively with all constituents

Leo Alvarez came to Thomas University to earn a bachelor’s degree and play on the Night Hawks Men’s Soccer Team. At first he wasn’t sure about his major or career direction. During his sophomore year, a family tragedy turned out to be a life-changing event that gave Leo the direction he needed.
Consisting of guitarist Silviu Ciulei, bassist David Cobb and percussionist Ramin Yazdanpanah, Maharaja Flamenco Trio blends traditional Spanish rhythms with jazz, classical and world music. The three will share their talents with guests at the Thomas County Public Library on Nov. 19 at 12 p.m. as part of the Fridays at Noon series presented by Arts for the Community at Thomas University.
During the next installment of Thomas University’s popular Science Café, guests will join archaeologist Mike Wisenbaker to explore America’s longest underwater cave. The event will begin at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 30, in the Flowers Foods Executive Classroom inside Smith-Bonvillian Hall on TU’s Forbes Campus.
The next Science Café at Thomas University on Tuesday, Oct. 26, will feature Dr. Samuel C. Grant, director of the MRI Program at the National High Magnetic Field Laboratory in Tallahassee, presenting “Stroke of Genius.”
Multi-talented musician and educator Longineau Parsons will be part of a stellar quartet including Michael Bakan, Joel Johnson and Brian Hall to perform at the next Friday at Noon concert on Oct. 22 at First Missionary Baptist Church, 110 W. Calhoun St., Thomasville.
