Cairo's Scholarship Soirée Raises Scholarship Funds for Area Students
Thomas University raised approximately $19,000 after expenses for students from Grady County at the Cairo's Scholarship Soirée event on Thursday, October 3 at Collins Place Venue in Cairo. The financial gifts were made possible by donations from the events sponsors, which will go towards scholarships for students from Grady County. The scholarships are to ease the financial burden of tuition cost and other expenses as they attain their college education that prepares them for successful careers.
The sponsors of the event were Tallahassee Coca-Cola Bottling Company, Diversified Benefits Administrators, Big Bend Agri-Services, Sweet Georgia Bottle Shop, JTEK, Synovus, United National Bank, Archbold Grady, BRAVO Sound Production, Cox Septic Solution, Graco Fertilizer, Royce's Towing & Recovery, Magnolia Place Senior Living, Powe Automotive, Southern Insurance, Representative Darlene Taylor, HD 173, Blue Wave Pools and Spas, Melissa and Todd Butler, Casa Grande, CG Cleaning Services, DRE Farms, Fresh Start Global Outreach Ministries, Grady EMC, Grady Finance, New Hire Solutions, and Southern Promotions and Apparel.
"Having a Grady County Scholarship shows students that their local community supports them," event planning committee chair Chelsie Cosby ('15), said. It also helps us to keep some of those students here even after they graduate." The planning committee also includes Taylor Gilliard, Jennifer Jarvis, Jeremy Jones, Brande Strickland ('97), and Katie Williams. The scholarships will be awarded to students pursuing undergraduate degrees during the 2025-26 academic year.

Lieutenant Colonel Points to Opportunities at Thomas College
Lieutenant Colonel Kevin D. Ingram is the Senior Army Instructor for the Thomas County Central High School Army Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps (JROTC) program. He has been a part of the military for nearly 30 years. He always wanted to join the Army ROTC, and when the opportunity came, he took advantage of it.
Ingram became the first and only graduate from Thomas College, now Thomas University, to receive a Cadet Scholarship. Through a partnership with Florida State University in the early 1990s, Thomas College began offering a cross-enrollment ROTC program. He was able to earn his bachelor's degree from Thomas College and be commissioned a Second Lieutenant in the Air Defense Artillery from Florida State University in 1996. With the foundation of a Thomas College education, Ingram was able to build a military career by advancing in different leadership roles. |

TU Professor Named Teacher of the Year
A Thomas University Professor was named Bishop Hall Charter School's Teacher of the Year. Dr. Retha Lee, a Division of Education professor at TU, is also an English teacher at Thomas County-based Bishop Hall, where she was voted for by her peers to receive the prestigious award.
"I am honored and flattered to be recognized by my peers and to represent Bishop Hall," she said. "I've been teaching a long time and it's a blessing to receive this award." |

Magnolia High School Banquet Honors Alumni
Applause filled the Thomas University gymnasium as over 300 alumni of Magnolia High School were honored during an induction ceremony on Saturday, July 27, 2024. Alumni and family representatives of alumni who achieved academic and athletic success walked across the stage as their names were called and presented a certificate by former Magnolia High School faculty and staff.
"Mr. Johnnie Jones would be so proud," Simmons said. "Excuses? There was no room for it. Hè would not allow our education to be secondary to anybody. When we left his school, we were prepared to compete and perform on a world stage because he taught us how to compete." |

Women's Soccer Team Cemented Win Amid Downpour Thomas University notched another win against former conference foe Ave Maria University at the TU Soccer Complex. The game was a messy one as a downpour of rain made things slick for both teams, but the Night Hawks prevailed with a 2-1 win.

Men's Soccer Open Conference Play with a Victory The Men's Soccer Team opened its Southern States Athletic Conference play with a 3-2 victory over Life University. Team captain Alex Ruane scored two goals and Senior Cameron Hawkins score a goal to seal the win. |

| Junior Received First SSAC Offensive Player of the Week Award
Junior Sasha Manders won her first ever SSAC Offensive Player of the Week award for her performance the week of Aug. 26 - Sept. 1. She had a hat trick and game winner against D2 Albany State which she accomplished all in 33 minutes and an assist against the No. 24 team in the country for a total of seven points. |

TU Athletes Named to Leadership Council Thomas University Cross Country team runner Victoria Richards and Men's Soccer team player Stanley Hooker will represent the Southern States Athletic Conference on the 2024-25 SSAC Student Leadership Council. The council will provide a collective voice of student-athletes to the conference office and administration of the member schools. |
