Thomas University alumnus Roger Wade Glover was appointed the new Police Chief of Thomasville

Thomas University Alumnus Named New Thomasville Police Chief

 

From making siren noises as a child on his family farm to the pinnacle of the Thomasville Police Department, Thomas University alumnus Roger Wade Glover was appointed the new Police Chief of Thomasville.   

Glover was named the City’s Police Chief in February after serving as Major in the police department’s Support Services Division since 2015.   

“I am humbled and honored to be chosen for this position,” Glover said. “It is an enormous responsibility that I am ready to embrace.”

Jennifer Coleman Prepared to Make TU Proud 

 

Thomas University prepared Jennifer Coleman to take a huge leap, and she is hoping to make the Night Hawks proud. 

Just a couple weeks after completing all the requirements for graduation last December, Coleman became the Athletic Public Relations Assistant for Florida State University’s Track and Field program. 

“Going from Thomas University to Florida State was a huge jump for me but being at TU prepared me,” she said. “I met a lot of people at TU – professors, coaches, and mentors. When I first got there, they welcomed me with open arms. I can’t thank them enough because not everyone gets the chance to literally graduate college and already have a jump start on their career.

Community Generosity to Support Students' Scholarships

 

A Thomas University education will be more affordable for students thanks to the record-breaking generosity of sponsors of the annual Dining for Education Drive-Thru Dinner. 

The “Supper in the South” themed drive-thru dinner was held on March 25, at SASS! Restaurant in downtown Thomasville. It was supported by over 50 sponsors including local corporations, businesses, and individuals, whose philanthropic gifts eclipsed funds raised in previous years.

Thomas University Ranked No. 1 Military Friendly School

 

Thomas University was proudly named the No. 1 Military Friendly School by Military Friendly®, which measures an organization’s success and commitment to the military community.    

The university was also recognized as the No. 1 Military Spouse Friendly School. TU claimed the No. 1 spot in the category of private colleges and universities not offering doctorate degrees for 2024-2025. 

TU was awarded the No. 1 ranking because of its efforts in creating sustainable and meaningful education paths for the military community.   

“To be named the #1 Most Military Friendly School in the country is such an amazing honor,” Stephen Ferguson, Vice President of Military and Corporate Relations at TU, said. “Our institution has done an outstanding job of creating programs that truly benefit our military and veteran community, and this award confirms our efforts are aligned with what it truly means to be ‘military friendly’”.

Thomas University Honors Supporters at Forbes Dinner

 

Thomas University showed its appreciation to its supporters at its annual Forbes Society Dinner on Thursday, Feb. 8 at Glen Arven Country Club in Thomasville.  

TU presented three awards recognizing the impact community leaders have had on the University. But before the awards were presented, the dinner began with the guest speaker, student Victoria Pedro, sharing her poignant and inspirational story about her journey to TU.

TU Offers New Degree Program

 

Thomas University launched a new business degree program that will give students more career opportunities in the fast-growing financial world.    

TU students can now earn a Bachelor of Science in Accounting degree by conveniently taking flexible online courses.    

“Accounting is one of the basic building blocks of business programs,” Dr. Pauline Ray, Division Chair of Business at Thomas University, said. “We had a Business Administration major with a concentration in Accounting in the past, but we are now offering a BS in Accounting in an online program accessible to students who work and have busy family lives.”

Alum Casey Avery was selected Teacher of the Year at Eastside Elementary School in Grady County.

Teachers of the Year Announcements 

 

Alum Daisha Taylor was chosen as one of the top ten finalist for the 2025 Georgia Teacher of the Year award.  She teaches fifth-grade math andscience at Church Street Elementary School in Clayton County. Daisha earned her Master’s of Education in Curriculum & Instruction. 

Alum Casey Avery was selected Teacher of the Year at Eastside Elementary School in Grady County. 

TU Department of Education Alum Renee Williamson was named Whigham Elementary School’s Teacher of the Year.

Night Hawks Signed Large Class for Second Season

 

The Night Hawks Military Transition Football Program took a big step forward, as they look forward to the program's second season of existence in the NAIA, by signing multiple players on National Signing Day.  

The incoming class features many players, on both sides of the ball, that Head Coach Orlando Mitjans expects to contribute next season. The Night Hawks are looking to fly high, as they compete in The Sun Conference 2024.

Flag Football Team Received Championship Ring

Flag Football Received Championship Ring

 

The Women's Championship Flag Football team received their 2023 championship rings in January. The Night Hawks Flag Football team earned their rings by capturing both The Sun Conference regular season and tournament championships in 2023. 
 
Thomas finished 2023 with a 20-3 overall record, going 9-1 in conference play. The Night Hawks had a remarkable 2023 season, statistically, by holding 10 opponents scoreless, and held an additional six opponents to one touchdown of less, on the scoreboard.

Record Winning Streak

The Men’s Baseball team opened its season with a record-breaking eight-game winning streak. The winning streak included an impressive 21-0 victory in game one against Trinity Baptist College, and a win over No.12 ranked Webber University. 

Cross country teams stand out

National Swimming and Diving Championships

Freshman Aspen Shipp led Thomas University to a Top 12 finish at the NAIA National Swimming and Diving Championships. She scored 38 points, the team’s highest points.
