Tasty Tuesday brings cultural cuisine experience to TU

On Jan. 31 Thomas University’s Campus Activities Board hosted its first Tasty Tuesday featuring a Spanish-inspired menu.
The cuisine consisted of the rice dish paella served in seafood, chicken and vegan varieties. Flan, an egg custard with a crispy top, and drinks completed the culinary experience. TU students and employees gathered in front of the Library on Forbes Campus for Tasty Tuesday during lunchtime to enjoy the food while enjoying a break from the rigors of classes and sports team practices.
Tasty Tuesday also served as an opportunity for students to gain an
appreciation for the flavors of southern Spain’s dishes.
“It’s amazing,” Joao Pedro Vinha, a TU student from Brazil, said. “I’ve been to Spain, and this is pretty similar. I really like it, and I’m happy with what they provided today.”
Another student, Jorge Gonzales from Spain, knows how an authentic paella should taste. He said the paella reminded him of home.
The fruits of CAB members’ labor is not exclusive just to TU students, but TU staff and faculty also joined in the fun.
“Absolutely excellent,” Kendon Warren, a student success advisor, said about the paella. “I think the depth of flavor, the variety, and the amount that people were served for free was fantastic. It was a great way to expose people to different cultures if they never experienced something like that before. Five stars!”
Dr. Jodi Yambor, Director of Optimal Performance Training and Professor of Sports Psychology, said, “It was outstanding. I really liked the paella. I’ve eaten it many times before, and it was really good. I liked how they had different options with it for students, so that there was kind of something for everyone.”
Working with CAB to plan events such as Tasty Tuesday is Alexis Gresham, Student Life Coordinator.
“Student life is important at any school, wanting to keep students engaged, especially when a school is in a small town like Thomasville where there isn’t as much to do compared to urban areas,” she said.
CAB members say they find their work fulfilling.
“I really like doing it,” Laura Catalina Mican, a TU graduate student from Colombia, said. “Each person gets to plan events.
“CAB gives a lot of experience,” Mican continued. “I feel like it gives you enough experience for you to build different skills, such as time management, organization, communication skills, all of that.”
TU’s CAB members plan additional Tasty Tuesday events for this semester.
