Thomas University will be hosting a ribbon cutting ceremony to reveal the new Magnolia High School Hall of Fame.

The event will be held on June 19, 2024 at 11 a.m. in the Chappelle Building on the Magnolia Campus, 1550 Magnolia Road in Thomasville.

The ribbon cutting ceremony will celebrate the rich history of Magnolia High School, a segregated high school for African Americans between 1958 and 1970 in Thomas County.

The Magnolia High School Hall of Fame will recognize the academic, athletic, and professional success of students and staff, including teachers and coaches, who attended and worked at Magnolia High School.

The Hall of Fame will showcase a photo plaque of the only principal of Magnolia High School, Johnnie J. Jones.

Nearly 100 name plates of all the students inducted into the Honor Society, student-athletes on the football, baseball, basketball, and track teams, along with the year they graduated, will be on display.

The name plates of all the staff who worked at Magnolia High School, the subjects they taught, their administrative role, and the sports they coached will also be displayed in the Hall of Fame.

The ribbon cutting ceremony will feature remarks from the President of the Magnolia High School Alumni Association, Bill Simmons.

The Hall of Fame will be housed in the Chapelle building of Thomas University, the site where the Magnolia High School was located.
