Thomas University is rolling out eight new programs in Fall 2024.

The bachelors, master’s, and certification programs are focused on Special Education, an area where Education faces an increased demand for certified professionals.

“We sought approval from the Georgia Professional Standards Commission to offer Special Education programs because we wanted to be responsive to the needs of our K-12 partners,” Dr. Susan Lynn, Chair and Professor, Thomas University’s Division of Education, said. “School districts all across Georgia need Special Education teachers to adequately staff their classrooms.”

The undergraduate degree programs are Bachelor of Science in Special Education General Curriculum, and Bachelor of Science in Special Education General Curriculum Elementary Education.  TU will also begin offering a Bachelor of Science in Secondary Science Education,

The graduate degree programs are Master of Arts in Teaching Special Education General Curriculum, Master of Arts in Teaching Special Education General Curriculum/Elementary, Master of Education in Special Education General Curriculum, and Education Specialist Degree in Special Education General Curriculum.

Thomas University is also offering an Education Leadership Tier II Certification for principals and administrators who supervise school principals.

The programs are designed to help students excel in their careers while meeting the demands of their busy schedules, with some classes in selected majors offered on Saturdays.

“Our Bachelor of Science and Master of Arts in Teaching programs will allow us to increase the number of certified teachers,” Lynn said. “Our new Master of Education program will allow currently certified Special Education teachers to gain additional knowledge and skills to better meet the needs of their students. The Education Specialist in Special Education program will target teachers who would like to gain more knowledge to lead Special Education programs in their school or district.”

With all of the new Special Education programs, TU students will become better educational leaders. They will be able to understand how to address the special needs of their students in the classroom.
